About Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, NY
Hammerstein Ballroom is a concert venue located in Midtown Manhattan. The ballroom opened on April 9, 1914 and was built by Oscar Hammerstein I who also built the Manhattan Opera House in 1854. It has been host to many famous artists such as Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead and Bruce Springsteen. Today it is owned by Live Nation Entertainment and can hold up to 2,150 people depending on the event being held there.
The venue has two levels: The main floor hosts concerts while the upper level contains dining areas where patrons can enjoy drinks or food while watching their favorite band perform below them on stage in front of an audience full of enthusiastic music lovers who love great rock music just as much as they do!
The theater is located in Midtown Manhattan on West 34th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, inside what was once the Manhattan Opera House. Because of its location and interior design, the Hammerstein Ballroom is an ideal setting for upscale concerts, award shows, events such as TED Talks or political debates, fundraisers and fashion shows: anyone looking for a visually stunning backdrop will find it here.
Built in 1919
The Hammerstein Ballroom, built in 1919 and named after Oscar Hammerstein I, the theater’s founder and namesake, was built to host vaudeville acts. It was originally called the Victoria Theater and rebranded as such in the 1920s.
The Hammerstein Ballroom has been a New York City venue for live music since it opened in 1919. It was designed by Chicago architect John Eberson, and its unique domed ceiling makes it one of the city’s most beautiful theaters. Concerts at the Hammerstein are known for their excellent sound quality, which is enhanced by a recent renovation to the venue’s acoustics.
